meri har soch mein, meri har baat mein, mere ehsaas mein, mere jazbaat mein, tum hi tum ho, tum har kahin ho.
in my every thought, in my every word, in every feeling, in all emotion, it’s only you, you who is everywhere.
50 Girlcrushes of 2013: Madhuri Dixit
I don’t want to say Madhuri Dixit is single-handedly responsible for ruining my life, but … she is single-handedly responsible for ruining my life. Watching the 2002 classic Devdas for the first time in years sent me spiraling head first into the Bollywood end of the cinema pool and I have yet to find my way back (I may never want to come back), but it was somewhere in the middle of this wonderful Madhuri Dixit sequence that captured my imagination and now in the age of Netflix, and the web in general, I am no longer limited by the Bollywood selection found at my local video store (remember those places). But, I will say, that even Netflix’s fairly numerous titles available in the Dixit filmography, it still doesn’t feel like enough because I want to see it all. And it seems like I picked a rather good time to become a fan because Madhuri Dixit has returned to cinema after a lengthy hiatus from the business. I count the moments until Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani arrives at my door. Madhuri Dixit is also a judge on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, India’s version of Strictly Come Dancing where she sometimes dances with other Bollywood actors I have come to love. There is just such a purity in the way she moves and her smile could melt the coldest of hearts. She is a classic leading lady, like something from another age. I hope to continue to enjoy anything she is in for years to come.
